Elder Freddie Mack

April 28, 1945 ~ November 8, 2021 (age 76)

Elder Freddie Mack was born April 28, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Henry and Mazzie Milledge Mack. He departed this earthly life on November 8, 2021.
 

Elder Mack was educated in the public schools of Richland County. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1964. He further his education at the University of Davis in Davis, California where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in African American Studies.  Freddie was a firm believer in education and attended several institutions to include The William L. Bonner Bible College and The University of South Carolina.  Freddie spoke fluent German and Swahil and traveled to Kenya in Africa to render missionary services.  Elder Mack served in the United States Air Forces. He was employed by the United States Postal Services, The Midlands Council on Aging, and The University of South Carolina’s Transportation services. 

Elder Mack was the pastor of The Victory Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ for 38 years. Under his leadership, many souls were baptized and filled with God’s spirit according to Acts 2:38. Elder Mack dedicated his life to the Lord, his family, loved ones and community. To know Elder Mack was to love him and be loved and cared for by him.

Elder Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mazzie Mack; sisters, Verneal James and Loretta Dash; and granddaughter, Ebony Mack.  Elder Mack leaves cherish memories to his loving wife, Alberta Mack, whom his affectionately called "Sweet Tootsie"; one daughter, D'Jaris Mack; two sons, Edward (Patonya) Mack and Frederick (Patricia) Mack; one sister, Ora Bell Cummings; five grandchildren, Nicholas Mack, Jessica Mack, Kyana Swaggert, A'Jee Mack, Tassia  and Darshawna Barnes; four great-grandchildren;  five God-children, James Lamar Carroll, Tracy Fagans, Brenda Ford, Wanda Ford and Elliot Grace Davis; and a host of nephews, nieces,  cousins, friends, and the Victory Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ Family.

BIshop James W. Mickens

April 12, 1931 ~ December 16, 2013

Bishop James W. Mickens, 82, husband of Van Joe D. Mickens, passed away on Dec. 16, 2013, at his home.  Born April 12, 1931, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Wilson M. and Lou Ida Holmes Mickens.

 

He was the founder, builder and former pastor of Bethel Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Wedgefield. He retired after 32 years of service to the people of God in the state of South Carolina and surrounding communities. Prior to pastoring, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He also served as maintenance supervisor for the Sumter Housing Authority.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Van Joe Mickens; three daughters, Valorie Thompson (Carl) of Tampa, Fla., Vanessa E. Tillar of Sumter and Tina C. Mickens of Columbia; two sons, Peter I. Mickens Sr. of Columbia and Dwayne A. Mickens Sr. (Sonya) of Tampa; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Quince of Paterson, N.J., Marie Issac of Sumter, Susan Spann of Columbia and Janie Witherspoon (James) of Sumter; two brothers, Earl Mickens Sr. (Catherine) of Atlanta and William Mickens of Sumter; one brother-in-law, James Rogers of North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Clark and Alberta Rogers.

 Nancy was the beloved daughter of Roosevelt and Eunice McLamore. She passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at her home in Columbia. She was 59. Nancy, affectionately known as "Nane," was educated in the public schools of South Carolina, graduating Dreher High School in 1972. She was a faithful member of The Victory Church of Lord Jesus Christ.

 

Nancy was employed as a childcare teacher at the Montessori School of Columbia and at Trenholm United Methodist Church Childcare for over 20 years combined. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Johnson, Sr.; three daughters: Tammy Velez, Falisha (Timothy) McLamore-Brand and Terrencia (Troy) McLamore-Adams; four sons: Douglas Johnson, Jr., Duron Johnson, Rickey (Shandreca) Johnson and Terrence McLamore; her parents, Roosevelt and Eunice McLamore; three sisters: Mary (Jimmy) McLamore-Livingston, Louise McLamore and Linda McLamore; seven brothers: Rommie Lee, Roosevelt Jr., Ronnie (Cynthia), Bruce (Carlene), Keith, Reginald and Willie James McLamore; 13 grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Laura Bell Johnson of Bamberg, South Carolina; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of other loving relatives.
